ABSTRACT:Microplastics (particles <5 mm in size) have emerged as a widespread contaminant across global aquatic ecosystems and drinking water supplies. This review paper examines the primary sources of microplastics in both tap and bottled drinking water, evaluates potential biological and health risks to human systems, and explores technological and policy-driven mitigation strategies. Advanced water treatment processes, source reduction, and regulatory frameworks are assessed for their efficacy in removing microplastics and building environmental resilience.
