ABSTRACT:The increasing use of digital platforms has made online interactions an important part of everyday life. However, many digital interfaces use dark patterns, which are design practices that can influence users toward decisions that may not fully reflect their preferences. This study examines user awareness and experiences of dark patterns in commonly used digital applications. A quantitative research approach was adopted, supported by a survey of users and an application-level analysis of selected digital platforms. The study focuses on identifying commonly encountered dark patterns, measuring users’ awareness of such practices, and examining their experiences with manipulative interface features. The findings indicate that users frequently encounter practices such as Forced Action, Interface Interference, repeated permission requests, and difficulties in changing or cancelling settings, while awareness of the term dark patterns remains comparatively limited. The study highlights the need for greater digital awareness, transparent interface design, and effective implementation of consumer protection measures. Improving digital literacy can help users recognize deceptive interface techniques and make more informed decisions while using online platforms.
